A musical journey through the darkness to find the light
With the help of her weird, wondrous and loyal friends, Martha goes a desperate journey to find her lost brother, fight the evil Administrator and rid the world of The Dark. An epic tale that shines the light of strength on the darkness of grief and loss.
CAST OF CHARACTERS
MARTHA
A hard-headed young girl with grit, strength and a wry sense of humor, Martha escapes the confines of an institution to go on a wild, epic journey to save her older brother and rid the world of The Dark.
RUGBY
Acting as Martha’s protector on her journey, Rugby magically appears from her bedroom rug. He is forthright, honest and loyal. And what he lacks in courage he makes up for with an enormous appetite. (He has a special love of chocolate chip cookies.)
THE ADMINISTRATOR
The Administrator is a horrible, destructive, villainous woman whose only goal is to take over the world and shroud it forever in the smothering clutches of The Dark. She is obsessed with power and control. (Look up “evil” in the dictionary. Her picture’s there.)
CAPTAIN SAWBUCK
The swaggering, blustery and bellicose Captain Sawbuck is another character who is sworn to help Martha on her journey. Piloting her airship The Tainted Lady, Captain Sawbuck flies our intrepid crew through dark skies and stormy waters.
CENTERLANE RUMBLESTRIP
A master mapmaker and geological cartographer, Rumblestrip helps Martha make her way in the world, using his maps, charts and globes to find their way to the enchanted Isle of Jewelania.
KING MALOOGA
King Malooga is the ruler of Bayabegga, a small, inconspicuous island filled with rabid, aggressive tribe of very hungry cannibals. They’d love to make a ten-course dinner from Martha and her travelling companions.
JARHEADS
These vile and grotesque creatures serve the whims of The Administrator. They are a grisly troupe of nightmarish freaks who create cruel weapons and machinery to aid The Administrator in her quest to take over the universe. (Although, frankly, these guys aren’t the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.)
THE DOGS
These pathetic pets of the JarHeads were once men. But now they've been degraded and genetically modified to be clue hounds, sniffing up fragments of time and events and projecting them from the hideous lenses on their faces. Definitely not AKC approved.
ÜBERMURK
Blacker than black. Depraved and malevolent. Thoroughly unpleasant. The ÜberMurk is, in essence, the ancient beginnings of evil. In it’s belly was the beginnings of The Dark. It gave birth to it, nurtured it and sent it off into the world as a cruel weapon of control in the hands of The Administrator.

ANTHONY WOOD
Playwright
Author/Director/Actor/Visual Artist- for the last thirty years Anthony Wood has been pursuing his creative craft in film, on stage, through illustration and on the printed page. He has produced and directed numerous award winning films, including the short Baden Krunk. He penned the Milwaukee Holiday stage classic A Cudahy Caroler Christmas and has acted in a number of independent films and commercials. His written work can be seen at www.woodscripts.com.
MIRIAM DALY
Composer
Miriam Daly is a composer/music director/accompanist/arranger/teaching artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She was a long time music director of the Off-Broadway smash, Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding (which she also toured with nationally and in Japan), and has also worked in many other NYC venues including Don’t Tell Mama, The Duplex, La Mama, The Producer’s Club II, and Theatreworks USA.
